Kings and Queens of Baseballtown
Kevin Devera, medicine 2015
A 1981 graduate of Reading High School, cialis Devera has been around the Reading franchise for his entire life. He currently serves as the Impact Director of Health, discount Wellness, and Athletics for the Olivet Boys & Girls Club of Reading, a position he has held for 25 years. In his current role, he provides leadership and direction for all health, wellness, and sports activities. On top of those responsibilities as the Impact Director, he serves as the Director of the Olivet RBI Baseball Program (Reviving Baseball in the Inner City), a position he has held since 2005.
Since becoming a part of the Boys & Girls Club of Reading, he has established the opening of seven clubs while serving as Northwest Area Director, Southeast Area Director, Director of Core Program Services, Oakbrook Unit Director, and National Training Associate for Boys & Girls Clubs of America. Along with his support of baseball, the Caron Foundation honored Devera as the “Unsung Hero” for the promotion of HIV and AIDS awareness among inner city teen. He also serves as the Chairman of FirstEnergy Stadium.
The Olivet RBI Baseball Program teams have been awarded the opportunity to play at Gordon Hoodak Stadium at Lauer’s Park each summer since 2006. KD has overseen numerous youth baseball programs for inner city youth at Gordon Hoodak Stadium, a $900,000 youth ballpark built by Baseballtown Charities. His love for the game and contagious positive attitude has created a stadium where kids are able to spend their summers on the diamond and learning life lessons.
After three straight seasons where Reading High won a total of 14 games, the first group of kids to play at Gordon Hoodak Stadium in its inaugural year posted 18 wins for Reading High. That team went on to win the BCIAA baseball title finish as the runner-up in the 2014 RBI Mid-Atlantic Regional. For some, the Olivet RBI Baseball Program run by Devera was their first time playing baseball. Through his job at the Olivet Boys & Girls Club of Reading, KD has been able to share his passion for baseball, and give everyone a chance to play America’s game.
